Self -portrait

The self-portrait is one of the most difficult subjects for me. I've always been camera-shy, and feel awkward seeing myself on the screen.

A couple months ago I went to the AIGA design conference, and Julian Rothman and Wendy MacNaughton talked about the Women Who Draw project. Its mission is to increase the visibility of female illustrators, emphasizing female illustrators of color, LBTQ+, and other minority groups of female illustrators. I decided to participate by submitting an illustration of myself.

I am the happiest when surrounded by wildflowers and nature, and I want my self-portrait to represent spirit. Maybe one day when i grow up, I will have a beautiful native garden and a big greenhouse where I will be surrounded by all my favorite plants. For now, I will just go on lots of nature walks, and frequent the awesome greenhouse in Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill in Seattle. I'm a lucky gal.
